Read MoreSciemus Space insurance services provide a unique and objective quantification of satellite and launch vehicle risk, with the ability to calculate the technical rate of risk:
Sciemus have designed a range of products catered to the needs of insurers and reinsurers of satellite launch, post separation and in-orbit risk. Providing technical underwriting services and advice, portfolio risk review and technical claims analysis.
Sciemus Space technical underwriting services utilise unique analysis to assesses satellite launch, post-separation or in-orbit risk. Typical assessment includes operator history, satellite or fleet overview detailing values, average sum insured, days on risk, insurance policy comment, satellite technical risk of failure, key sub-system risk identification, analysis of anomalies, technical issues and underwriting recommendations.
Reinsurers underwriting Space Quota-Share treaties have low, if any, visibility over the underlying technical risk of the launch and in-orbit risks their portfolio supports. Sciemus space portfolio risk analysis is based on the technical probability of failure of each satellite or launch vehicle using FMECA methodology and component reliability data in the same way as a satellite manufacturer would measure reliability. The analysis shows probability of loss distributions split into in-orbit / launch +1 run-off, on-risk and forecast. This information, when plotted against estimated premium income, clearly identifies the quality of the portfolio and allows comparisons between various treaties written and the risk to the total portfolio. Analysis can be provided as a one off review or as a quarterly or half yearly service to monitor movement in risk against premium as risks are ceded to quota-shares through the underwriting year.
